Overview

Your day at Shamballa Moon starts when you wake up to the mist rising from the river valley and sunlight filtering through the treetops. Enjoy a fine breakfast spread at the elegant dining table before settling into a sun lounger by your private infinity pool and whiling away the hours with a good book. You might be tempted to stay here all day watching the birds and butterflies flit among the flowers, but Bali’s arts and culture capital of Ubud is just minutes away, so you will probably want to get out at least once to do some shopping, gallery hopping and stopping at world-class cafes and eateries. Head back to the villa for sunset cocktails on the daybed next to the pool, and and end your day with a candlelit meal on the wooden deck under the stars.

The Layout

The ground floor of Shamballa Moon is where you will find the beautiful living room adorned with whitewashed wood furniture and large sofas with soft white cushions. For those who like to spend quiet evenings in, there is an entertainment system with a flat screen TV, DVD and CD player and a Bose iPod dock. To one side of the living room, there is an open-plan kitchen, and directly in front of the living room and kitchen there is a covered dining pavilion that overlooks the pool.

The infinity pool looks as though it spills into the jungle at the edge of the property, and it is flanked by a wooden pool deck with sun loungers, and a poolside bale (pagoda) with an oversized daybed laden in pillows. By day, the sun sparkles on the water, and at night the pool is lit with soft lamps, which makes it the perfect setting for a midnight swim.

There is also a beautiful bathroom on the main floor that has a large terrazzo bathtub and an outdoor rain shower. For your convenience and comfort, there are also natural aromatherapy products and plush towels.

Head up the wooden stairs, and you will reach the bedroom—a breezy living space that spreads across the entire top floor and features a balcony overlooking the treetops of the jungle ravine. A four-poster king bed takes centre place, and distinctive touches like wicker furniture, Chinese lamps and a gauzy mosquito net add a touch of the exotic. The bedroom also has an ensuite bathroom.

Location

Villa Shamballa Moon is very conveniently located in a small traditional village called Payogan whose meaning is place to do yoga. Although just 7 minutes drive from the centre of Ubud one senses they are miles away in the middle of a tropical forest. This hidden gem allows you to experience seclusion whilst remaining a stones throw from all conveniences.

A few minutes drive from the villa is the Sanggingan area offering a variety of culinary and shopping experiences. Among them the world famous Mozaic restaurant for fine dining and other places popular with tourists and expatriates such as Nuri's and Fly Cafe. There are also many art galleries, antique shops, boutiques, spas and a yoga studio.

The villa is about one hour and fifteen minutes from Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport.

  1. Beautiful

Shamballa Moon was easily the best place we stayed in during our trip to Bali! The place has to be seen to be believed. Waking up to the sunrise, delicious meals by the pool, and naps on the day bed - heaven! Kadek and her team looked after us really well, we immediately felt at home. Her cooking is delicious, so we opted to have dinner by the pool every night. The outdoor bathroom was a personal highlight - so relaxing and a great way to start the day. Location wise, the villa is a 15 minute walk to come restaurants and shops, and a little further into Ubud town, however we made good use of the driver Wayan, who for reasonable prices drove us to wherever we wanted. We'd love to come back someday, and would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Shamballa to others!

  1. Beautiful, stylish space and amazing staff

My husband and I stayed at Shamballa Residence for our honeymoon and recently stayed at Shamballa Moon to mark our 1st anniversary. The fact that we returned to these neighbouring villas when there are so many options in Ubud should be testament enough but to elaborate - the space is cosy yet open and airy due to the indoor/outdoor design, the pool and gardens give a peaceful vibe and the staff are extremely welcoming and helpful. In-villa dining is excellent. We would recommend staying at Shamballa without hesitation.

  1. Beautiful Villa with exceptional service

Stayed in villa for honeymoon and couldn't have been happier. We arrived to flower petals decorating the entire villa both inside and out which was a very nice touch. Had never stayed in a villa before with outdoor bathrooms which was very cool, especially the rainfall shower and soaking tub. The service level of the staff was very high and meals were very good. Highly recommend the banana pancakes, mint juice drink and the corn fritters. They offer transportation from airport which is a little more expensive than taking a taxi, but worth it if you have never been to Ubud and know exactly where villa is as it is off the main road a little bit. Villa is about 5km from the center of Ubud which we walked once but taking taxis should be about 50-60 rupiah.

  1. Paradise Found

There are a hundreds of places to stay in Bali that look like a slice of paradise. I can honestly say that Shamballa Moon truly was a little piece of paradise. From the secluded location in the dense jungle, to the stunning decor throughout and wonderful staff we felt very spoilt! The pool overlooks a garden that then runs into the jungle beyond so you never feel like you're in an enclosed residence unlike some of the villas I have seen. The lounge area was perfect for relaxing in the evening with a DVD and a cocktail. The food we ordered for breakfast, lunch and dinner was beautiful. We only went out into Ubud for one night as we knew we were getting the best of the best within our very own villa. My favourite time was 'Turn Down' at dusk when candles were lit round the house, jasmine scent filled the air and all you could hear were the jungle sounds. I'm not sure if I'll find somewhere so special and just wish we had booked more than 3 nights. I have already recommended this to a friend and will continue to do so.

  1. A Most Lovely Stay, can't ask for more

Shamballa Moon is every bit as charming as the web pictures show. We love the wide open spaces and slept with no windows, no doors... the only form of enclosure was the mozzie net for our bed...it was, simply, WONDERFUL! Airflow was so good that we never once had the air-conditioning on. The villa was like an oasis; always amazingly cool and tranquil even in the summer heat of Bali. My husband was at first very sceptical about staying so close to nature, being extremely susceptible to mosquito bites but the insect repellent came home untouched, without a single bite sustained. Thanks for the hospitality which we cannot fault; we shall return with our teens for a longer stay.
