Overview

Styled like a Dutch colonial-era hill station and named after one of Holland’s grand 20th century hotels, Des Indes I is nothing if not opulent. The gorgeous tiled-roof pavilions offer copious amounts of space and boast luxurious touches like smooth teakwood and Palimanan stone floors, oriental carpets, and Indonesian antiques. The 21-metre swimming pool sits in the centre of the lush villa grounds and winds its way around the various pavilions. A full complement of staff ensure you never want for anything, but should you want to venture outside the villa, you have the beach, boutique shops, divine restaurants, and nightlife venues right on your doorstep.

The Layout

INDOOR LIVING
The main living pavilion at Des Indes I is housed in a huge centuries-old teakwood joglo that was once owned by a Javanese aristocrat. Open on all sides to allow breezes to flow through, the joglo features elaborately carved wooden pillars and panels, intriguing antiques and heirloom artefacts, three separate sitting areas with wicker chairs and tables, and a dining area with a large table that can seat eight people. There is also a bar pavilion with a guest bar and behind that a butler’s pantry and fully equipped kitchen.

OUTDOOR LIVING
Sunny days are best spent in the turquoise-tiled lagoon-style pool at Des Indes I. There are plenty of places to recline semi-submerged in the water including a series of steps at various entrances to the pool and a stone bench on the frangipani tree island. The lawn has sun loungers and parasols for sun tanning and for those who prefer the shade, there is a traditional wooden bale with soft cushions.

MASTER SUITES
On the opposite side of the pool from the living pavilion are two stand-alone pavilions that house the master suites. Each ample suite has a romantic four-poster king bed, a 37-inch satellite TV, and a cool air-conditioned den and library with a desk, loads of books, and a comfortable sofa that can double as an extra bed. The dressing areas lead to huge air-conditioned bathrooms with bathtubs, showers, and garden courtyards with outdoor showers. The master suites also have pool-facing verandas with breakfast tables, planters chairs and cushioned loungers.

GUEST SUITES
The guest suites at Des Indes I are situated in a two-storey pavilion with one suite on the ground floor and the other on the upper level. The ground floor suite has a queen bed, an ensuite bathroom that opens to a garden courtyard with an al fresco shower and bathtub. The upper suite has twin beds and an ensuite bathroom with a marble shower enclosure. Both suites have 37-inch TVs, roomy dressing areas, and window seating that can double as an extra bed. The upper room has its own entrance that can be accessed across a koi pond, or the rooms can be interconnected for families who want to stay together, but also have their own private spaces.

Des Indes I is located in the exclusive Laksmana Estate, which is comprised of 11 unique luxury villas in the heart of Seminyak. Petitenget Beach and its sacred temple are less than a five-minute walk away, and there are numerous boutique shops, chic cafes, beach clubs, restaurants, and nightclubs close by. In fact, some of Bali’s most renowned venues are within walking distance including Ku De Ta, Woo Bar at W Bali - Seminyak, and Potato Head Beach Club. Should you want to explore other areas of Bali like the volcanic interior, dive sites in the north, surf breaks along the south coast, or famous temples, the villa staff can offer suggestions and help arrange excursions.
