Taman Ahimsa

7 Bedrooms | Beachfront Haven | Seseh, Bali
From USD 1,390 / Night

Wonderfully organic, yet unmistakingly luxurious, Taman Ahimsa is a beautiful 7-bedroom beachfront villa in the peaceful village of Cemagi on Bali’s southwestern coast. The name means ‘Garden of Peace’, and it is pretty easy to see why when you stroll along the stone pathways through lush tropical gardens that spill down to a nearly deserted black sand beach. This fully staffed villa was designed with natural materials throughout such as bamboo, coconut wood, and alang-alang roofing, which gives the villa its exotic character and charm.

Overview

Set amid gorgeous gardens at the edge of a beautiful black sand beach, Taman Ahimsa was designed to blend seamlessly with its natural surroundings. Throughout the property you will find unique living pavilions shaped like boat hulls, bubbling water features, vibrant tropical flowers, and plenty of al fresco areas where you can enjoy the sea breezes and serene setting. Each of the beautiful bedrooms here is colour-themed and named after a Hindu chakra, and in all of the rooms and pavilions you will find recycled wood furniture, Indonesian antiques, and handmade fabrics.

It is easy to slip into a state of bliss at Taman Ahimsa, as there are countless corners for moments of solitude, as well as social hubs where you can have poolside parties, enjoy sunset cocktails on the beach, or indulge in gourmet meals under the stars. The friendly staff have a close connection to the villa and are committed to making sure each guest is comfortable and cared for. If you can tear yourself away from Taman Ahimsa, there are plenty of places to explore nearby including miles of untouched coastline, verdant rice paddies, and traditional Balinese temples and village life.

INDOOR LIVING
Taman Ahimsa’s entrance across a traditional wooden bridge leads you into the spectacular two-storey living pavilion. On the lower level you have two stunning sitting areas, one of which is covered by an alang-alang roof and boasts two built-in sofas scattered with batik cushions, an antique table fashioned out of an old boat, and a frangipani tree growing through the floor. The other sitting area is completely al fresco and offers views to the garden and the ocean. The dining area has a huge teak table that can seat 14 and copper lanterns that give it an alluring ambiance in the evenings. Head up the timber stairs and you find the TV room with its comfortable sofa, 32-inch TV, DVD player, and DVD collection.

GUEST SUITES
Each guest suite at Taman Ahimsa has its own unique character and colour theme, plus personal touches like ornate fabrics, a hand-selected crystal, and a private terrace surrounded by nature. All are air-conditioned and have smooth wooden floors, canopied king beds, writing desks, and comfortable armchairs and sofas. The ensuite bathrooms are just as spectacular as the bedrooms with a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces, bathtubs and wash basins made from hollowed out river rocks, and rain showers.

The Sahasrana and Vissudha rooms are located on the upper floor of the living pavilion, and are connected by a wooden bridge, which makes them perfect for families looking for a Robinson Crusoe experience. These rooms also have bamboo balconies overlooking the gardens and ocean. The other five rooms are housed in their own private pavilions scattered throughout the gardens, including the lavish Manipura master suite with its high vaulted ceilings and 2.3-metre bed. These rooms are accessed via stone pathways that wind around the gardens and branch off to the pool and beach.

OUTDOOR LIVING
Aptly named as the ‘Garden of Peace’, Villa Ahimsa offers a multitude of outdoor living and dining areas where you can soak up the sun, relax in the shade, and marvel at incredible sunsets over the ocean. The 18-metre, free-form swimming pool sits just steps from the beach and is lined with green Javanese stone. The pool is bordered on one side by a large ironwood deck with oversized rattan loungers and umbrellas, and on the ocean side there is a breezy poolside bale. Just off the ironwood deck there is an al fresco dining area with a table for 16 and the option to add a BBQ for seafood feasts. The dining pavilion can also be converted to a yoga studio.

Location

Taman Ahimsa is located in the wonderfully bucolic seaside village of Cemagi. The villa is approached via rolling lush green rice paddies tended by local farmers. And once at the villa the sweeping views across the ocean to Uluwatu, on Bali’s southernmost tip, are breathtaking. A few short steps and you are on the beach itself, the warm sand between your toes. And unlike the crowded beaches at Kuta or Legian, you will have this one pretty much to yourself!

If you have the urge to explore, some of the island’s best surf breaks are located within a short drive, including Batu Bolong, Echo Beach and Seseh. Nirwana Bali Golf Club, named one of the best golf courses in Asia, is a mere eight kilometres away and is one of the most exotic places to play a round of golf with its tropical setting and spectacular ocean backdrop. And guests should not miss watching the sun set over Tanah Lot, Bali’s most famous and revered temple, next to the Nirwana golf course.

While there may be some reluctance to leave the beauty and comfort of the villa and all it has to offer, the restaurants and nightlife of Seminyak are only half an hour (15km) away and Taman Ahimsa’s car and driver are at your disposal.
