The Layout

INDOOR LIVING
The central gathering point at Bendega Nui is the open-sided living room that overlooks the pool, gardens, and rice fields. Guests can relax under fans on two large teak sofas with brightly coloured cushions. At the back of the room is an antique canoe topped with glass that makes a six-metre table perfect for buffet meals. Step through glass doors and you enter the air-conditioned dining room with a five-metre Merbau wood dining table that can seat up to 20 people. The library features floor-to-ceiling shelves filled with books, a 50-inch TV, and DVD player and it connects to the air-conditioned games room with a full-size pool table.

OUTDOOR LIVING
With over 3,900 square metres of space, Bendega Nui offers plenty of outdoor areas to enjoy Bali’s beautiful tropical weather. The grounds feature lush gardens and grassy courtyards with serene koi ponds, fragrant frangipani trees, and African tulip trees. The focal point is the aquamarine infinity-edged pool that faces the rice paddies and is backed by a sun deck with loungers and umbrellas. Next to the pool there is an open-sided pavilion with bean bags, a huge L-shaped daybed, and a dining table for 10. Behind the pool pavilion there is also a changing room and guest washroom. Set back from the main pool area is a peaceful reading bale with a daybed and cushions perched over a koi pond.

MASTER SUITES
Bendega Nui has not one, but three master bedrooms. One suite is situated in a standalone pavilion next to the pool and has a private balcony with views out to the rice fields. The other two master suites are located on the upper floor of the main building and have French doors that open to terraces that overlook the rice fields. One of the upper level suites has views of the ocean from the bathroom, and the other has access to a study with a laptop and printer. All master suites have king-sized four-poster beds, Indonesia textiles, antiques, and artworks, iPod docks, and massive bathrooms with sunken double bathtubs and rain showers.

GUEST SUITES
The two guest suites at Bendega Nui were designed with families in mind, so they boast twin beds that can be converted to king beds. One is on the upper floor and has a cheerful turquoise colour theme, a 37-inch TV, iPod dock, and an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in rain shower. The other guest suite is in a quiet corner of the gardens and has sliding glass doors that open to nature, a sitting area, and a semi-outdoor bathroom with a huge river rock tub surrounded by a fish pond. There is also an optional guest suite set in a private walled garden between Bendega Nui and Bendega Rato that has its own private plunge pool and an ensuite bathroom with a huge bathtub for two.

Location

Bendega means ‘fisherman’ in Balinese, which is fitting considering the villa sits in the small fishing village of Nelayan in Canggu. The black sands of Nelayan Beach are just a five-minute stroll from the villa, and if you follow the coastline you can walk to Batu Bolong Beach with its rolling surf breaks and popular spots like Old Man’s, The Lawn, and Tugu Hotel. By car you can reach the heart of Canggu in just minutes, and a bit further is bustling Seminyak with even more options for drinking, dining and shopping. Your villa manager can also arrange transportation to destinations around Bali including Tanah Lot, the Bukit, Ubud, and Amed.
