Architect Maximilian Jencquel from Studio Jencquel designed a sustainable luxury villa for a private client set in the upper reaches of Pererenan, Bali along a small river valley. The architecture is timeless, inspired by Japanese elements and relying on natural materials like lava stone and teak wood combine with Japanese-influenced elements to create a zen-like atmosphere just minutes from black sand beaches, surf breaks, and the heart of Canggu.

There are three bedrooms at Rumah Rubah designed for peace, privacy, and restful sleep. The rooms have plush beds, large windows that overlook tropical greenery, and ensuite bathrooms with luxurious amenities. Vertical shading structures keep the rooms cool, and large doors can be opened to allow air to flow in.
Rumah Rubah makes the most of its tropical setting with beautiful open-air spaces that celebrate natural elements. The open-sided dining room faces the central courtyard and swimming pool on one side and a stunning Japanese-style pond on the other. Just a short drive away there are beautiful beaches, epic surf breaks, and trendy restaurants, shops, and bars. Ngurah Rai airport is about an hour’s drive from the villa.

The COMO Shambhala Suite is the jewel of Tirta Ening Residence with over 90 square feet of space and a stunning Japanese water garden with a private waterfall that tumbles 25 metres into a pond. This suite also has a king-sized bed, private Jacuzzi, outdoor shower, and a huge bathtub carved from a single rock. Mod cons include complimentary Wi-Fi, individually controlled air-conditioning, satellite TV, and a private bar.
The three Terrace Suites at Tirta Ening Residence are relatively the same size, ranging between 63 sqm and 68 sqm. Each features either a king or queen bed, smooth polished wood floors, and huge sliding cgass doors complemented by curtains and roll-down screens for privacy. The suites also have private ensuite bathrooms with rain showers and luxe COMO bath products.
The main pool is the focal point at Tirta Ening Residence, as it looks out over the jungle ravine and offers plenty of space to spread out on the surrounding wooden sundecks. The loungers are perfectly positioned to catch the sun, and can be moved if guests want to create a space for outdoor dining and entertaining. Guests at the estate also have access to the resort’s main pool, gym, sauna, and steam rooms, and are welcome to sign up for activities such as cycling, river rafting, rice field walks and water purification ceremonies.

COMO Shambhala Estate is near Ubud, which is a 20-minute drive from this bustling artists’ town towards the centre of the island.
