Four Seasons Spa Villas
Set in simply spectacular grounds overlooking the Ayung River Valley, the Spa Villas at the Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan offers traditional Balinese treatments to balance the chakras and still the body and mind. The signature Muladhara treatment attends to the root chakra and includes a relaxing foot massage, sacred cleansing kemenyan smoke, singing bells and an invigorating massage using local ginger, cinnamon, patchouli, vetiver and jatamansi oils. Afterwards you can freshen up in the massive bathtub overlooking the lotus ponds, in the steam room or the open-air shower courtyard.
Spa Alila Ubud
The Alila is all about ancient Asian healing techniques and all-natural, fresh ingredients for their spa products. We opted for the traditional Balinese Massage, which included long, deep strokes and palm and thumb pressure to alleviate pain and stress. The detoxifying massage oil was infused with grapefruit, cajeput, juniper and cedar to revive the senses and purify the body. We followed up with a divine facial using exfoliating sandalwood, French red clay and toning oils along with pressure point and lymphatic drainage techniques that left the skin glowing and fresh.
Winner of the World Luxury Spa Awards 2013, Fivelements provides authentic treatments with local healers and therapists, so guests can immerse themselves in a true Balinese cultural experience. Offering signature treatments like the Sandi Prana Massage that features full body reflexology and prana channeling to correct imbalances, improve mental clarity and protect the aura, and Chakra Balancing to revitalise the body and stimulate mental and emotional health, you’ll leave feeling cool and calm and like you’re floating on air.
Walk through the stunning grand entrance and head down a long winding pathway to the Amandari Spa, where you will be greeted by the lovely spa ladies and the heavenly signature scent in the air. The rooms here are open-air with huge baths and the soothing sound of waterfalls trickling down onto the rocks outside. Go for the Signature Massage, which combines gentle Balinese hand strokes, acupressure and Swedish massage techniques, or the Hot Stone Massage, which penetrates the muscles and draws out tightness.
COMO Shambhala Estate
Although COMO Shambhala gives top spa priority to guests on their much sought-after holistic wellness retreats, they also accept guests for the day if there are openings in the books. We highly suggest the COMO Shambhala Massage, as the long, deep muscle strokes and stretching techniques get the blood flowing and put you totally at ease. Follow up with a cup of their tasty natural ginger tea in the modern and minimalist spa lounge or outside on the grass under the palm trees.
In terms of location, you can’t get much better than the Spa at Maya Ubud. Take the elevator down to the river level, and follow the winding paths through tropical flowers and lush greenery to the tranquil spa villas sitting on the riverbank. Let the skilled therapists ease your stress with deep massages, invigorating body scrubs and purifying facials as you listen to the sounds of the river flowing by and birds chirping in the trees. After your treatment, head to the River Cafe for nutritious food and drinks and stunning views of the vertical jungle-covered walls of the river gorge.
