Combining traditional phinisi design and 21st century technology, El Aleph is a striking adventure yacht that offers an unrivalled sailing experience to unique destinations in the Indonesian archipelago in modern comfort.
viewSleek, slim and stylish, Katharina is a 40-metre traditional phinisi yacht that offers bespoke charters around the Indonesian archipelago. Originally built in Sulawesi in 1995, she was destined to be a commercial cargo ship until the owners spotted her potential as a luxury cruising yacht. In 2014 she was refitted by master Indonesian craftsmen to reflect her phinisi heritage and updated with state-of-the-art technology. With six spacious cabins, stunning decor, all the mod cons you could ask for, and plenty of indoor and outdoor areas for relaxing and socialising, Katharina offers five-star comfort at sea.
Decked out in dark teak wood and clean white lines, Katharina’s inviting interiors include a large air-conditioned lounge with ample cushioned seating and a TV, DVD player, and music centre. There is also a fully stocked bar for sundowner drinks and wooden dining tables where guests can indulge in gourmet creations prepared by the ship’s professional chef.
Al fresco areas include two gorgeous sundecks; one on the top deck with beanbags and cushions, and another on the foredeck with a huge dining table that can be covered or left open for meals under the stars. Guests also have the option to sleep outside on the decks with a selection of light sleeping bags and mattresses.
Katharina sails across the Indonesian archipelago in line with the seasons, keeping ahead of the rains to provide optimal cruising conditions. From April to September she plies the waters of Bali, Flores and the Lesser Sundas for amazing underwater adventures, incredible natural beauty and unique cultural experiences. In October she heads east to the remote Spice Islands in Maluku, then on to Raja Ampat and Sulawesi to discover pristine jungle-clad islands and some of the world’s best dive sites.
Designed with families and groups in mind, Katharina’s six stately cabins are located below deck and offer a range of sleeping configurations. Two cabins have plush double beds, two have double beds and single bunks above that are perfect for children, and two cabins have twin bunks (one above the other). Each cabin also offers windows that allow natural light in, individually controlled air-conditioning, and private ensuite bathrooms with showers.
Katharina’s warm and welcoming crew is led by Captain Iwan and includes 12 professional team members who are dedicated to making your stay aboard truly memorable. Pursers are on hand all day to serve meals made with fresh ingredients procured from local markets and fishermen, and to make sure you have all you need from dry towels to cold drinks. They can also provide guests with kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, snorkelling equipment and fishing gear and guide you on exciting excursions in the two tender boats.
Katharina was built in 2005 and spans 40m with a beam of 8.6m and a draft of 3.5m. 6 cabins accommodate up to 14 guests. She cruises at a maximum speed of 12 knots.
