Overview

The owners of Villa 1880 are an interior architect and vintage furniture showroom founder, and they drew on their innate sense of style to create this beguiling bolthole. Everywhere you turn there is something to catch the eye from the striking teal tiles in the 19-metre saltwater pool to the vintage Italian bar stools in the guest kitchen, the huge BBQ on the rooftop terrace, and the soft mood lighting that transforms the villa into an ethereal space at night. Added touches include a spa with a beautiful sunken bathtub, a state-of-the-art media room, a 1970s VW Kombi for transportation on request, and a full complement of villa staff including a private chef.

The Layout

INDOOR LIVING
Most of Villa 1880’s living spaces are outdoors, but for those who want to escape to cool air-conditioned comfort, there is a spacious media room on the upper floor of the plantation house with a plush L-shaped sofa, 60-inch TV, DVD player, home theatre system, shelves lined with books and board games, and a vintage Italian coffee table. The room features bright pops of colour from the red velvet upholstery on the sofa and brightly painted shelves and shutters. Guests can also retire to the spa with its two massage beds and sunken hammam-style bathtub or the cosy office fronted by a koi pond.

OUTDOOR LIVING
Villa 1880 has plenty of places to enjoy Bali’s gorgeous tropical weather. The main living and dining area is an open-air lounge that stretches along one side of the 19-metre swimming pool. This chic space has designer seating on one end, a four-metre wood dining table that can seat up to 12 people, and a guest kitchen with vintage Italian bar stools and a marble-topped island counter. Behind a wall of contemporary artwork is the fully-equipped chef’s kitchen.

A long ironwood deck connects the pool and plantation house to the sleeping pavilion, and it has another casual seating area with sofas, a hammock, a table tennis area, and a kid’s play area. Opposite the deck on the other side of the pool is a sun deck with loungers and an al fresco shower.

On the upper level of the plantation house there is a huge wooden veranda that wraps around the building and has comfortable seating with coffee tables. The veranda leads to the rooftop terrace located on top of the open-air living and dining area. Perfect for sunset drinks and breezy meals, this lovely space has long bench seating with brightly coloured cushions, tables, and a state-of-the-art BBQ.

Bedroom Suites

MASTER SUITE
The master suite at Villa 1880 is the only suite on the garden level and it has huge green shuttered windows on either side, a terrazzo floor in geometric patterns, a super king bed surrounded by a retractable billowing curtain, and a 42-inch TV with satellite channels. A room divider hides a writing desk, a wall of wardrobes, and the entrance to the roomy bathroom with stone wash basins and a garden courtyard with a bathtub and rain shower.

GUEST SUITES
There are two guest suites located on the upper level of the chic sleeping pavillion behind the main plantation house. They both have shuttered windows that look out over the ironwood veranda and garden courtyard, super king beds, and retro style furniture. One has an ensuite bathroom with granite wash basins and a shower, and the other has a large bathroom with granite basins and a shower, a door that connects to the bunk room bathrooms, and an outdoor courtyard with an al fresco bathtub and shower.

Follow the private staircase from the veranda, and you reach another guest suite hidden under the eaves of the plantation house. This peaceful and private suite has a super king bed, a writing desk, and a wardrobe. Behind smoked glass dividers there is an ensuite bathroom with an antique sink and a glass-enclosed shower.

BUNK ROOM
The bunk room is located on the upper floor of the plantation house and it has eight bunk beds designed to sleep children under 12 years old. Each bed has a reading light, wall organiser, and curtain for privacy. Other thoughtful touches include step ladders, toys, games, and books. The blue-tiled bathroom has a bathtub, bidet, and wash basins, including two basins that are lower for younger children. This room connects to the media room and upper terrace, as well as one of the guest suites via a door in the bathroom.

Location

Villa 1880 is located on Bali’s sunset coast just an eight-minute stroll from beautiful Batu Belig Beach in stylish Seminyak. There are numerous restaurants and cafes close by, and some of Bali’s best beach clubs and boutique shops are within walking distance. Canggu is also a short car ride away and boasts hip cafes, yoga studios, lush rice paddies and surf breaks. Guests who want to explore the surrounding areas or go further afield via car can request transportation in the villa’s 1970s VW Kombi.
