It’s after dark in Ubud and you’re craving some food, a few drinks and maybe a bit of music and a dance. Fortunately there is one place that offers it all and stays open well into the wee hours of the morning to boot. Centrally located on Monkey Forest Road, CP Lounge is a favourite late-night hangout for residents and visitors alike for its convivial vibes, great bands, and contemporary cocktails and cuisine.
Follow the paved path lit by colourful lanterns hanging from a vine-covered trellis until you reach the breezy outdoor lounge area overlooking the Ubud football field. Grab a seat on one of the comfy sofas surrounding low wooden tables, or sidle up to the bar and have a chat with the amiable bartenders as they whip up martinis, mojitos and CP’s famous buy-one-get-ten rainbow shots.
Every night of the week there is a band playing in the garden lounge, and depending on the night the tunes range from reggae to rock, blues, and oldies. Often times local characters will join in with impromptu jambe or didgeridoo sessions, and it has not been unknown to see a few expats and tourists up on the stage jamming with the bands.
Next to the lounge there is a covered chill-out area with a pool table and more sofas, and behind this pavilion there is a peaceful rice paddy that makes for the perfect sunset cocktail backdrop. After the bands stop, the crowds head inside to the nightclub for more rounds of pool, casual conversations at the dimly lit bar, and some booty shaking on the dance floor to the beats of the resident DJ.
Should you get hungry, CP’s kitchen stays open until late and they serve a fabulous array of tapas and light bites like samosas, chicken wings, grilled mushrooms and spring rolls. They also offer more substantial dishes like pizzas, pastas, steaks, and Indonesian favourites. And at the end of the meal, a shared shisha goes down a treat.
Whether you come on your own, as a couple or in a group, it’s pretty much guaranteed that you will meet a slew of new folks chilling in the lounge or tearing up the dance floor. And the bar stays open until the last person leaves, which means you have plenty of time to chat up your new friends for hours.
If you happen to be in Ubud on New Year’s Eve and are looking for a fun night out, CP Lounge will be throwing a New Year’s party like no other with special cocktails and shooters on offer and a whole lot of high energy music performances by guest and resident bands and DJs. Be sure to get there early though, as every New Year’s Eve the place packs out fast.
