In a peaceful paradise near Ubud - amidst lush green rice paddies, with a magnificent view of Bali’s mighty Mount Agung, lies Villa Bayad, a 4-bedroom luxury villa surrounded by gardens, lotus-ponds & waterfalls. Sleeps up to 8 Guests.view
Perched on the edge of a dramatic river valley gorge, Villa Vajra is a dramatic feat of contemporary architecture integrated into the existing contours of the slope as well as the surrounding jungle and rice fields. With a nod to contemporary Balinese aesthetics, this 3-bedroom luxury villa was built with natural materials such as alang alang thatched roofing, coconut wood pillars, teak floors and natural marble and stone walls and bathrooms. In addition, Villa Vajra aims to protect the unique environment and culture of Bali with their organic wastewater garden, organic ingredients used in the menu items whenever possible, energy saving efforts, stunning artworks by local artists, and responsible hiring practices.
The name Villa Vajra comes from Tibetan Buddhism, as a vajra is a symbolic item used in Tibetan rituals to represent the sword of wisdom cutting through ignorance. Renowned international architect Guy Morgan used this concept as the inspiration for the design of Villa Vajra, which is why the villa incorporates unique open spaces that make use of the natural environment, natural local materials and stunning landscaped gardens. The result is an appealing blend of outdoor living and luxurious indoor comfort.
Villa Vajra is located in the traditional Balinese village of Sebali, just a ten-minute drive from the arts and cultural capital of Bali, Ubud. As you drive past emerald green rice fields and multi-tiered Hindu temples, scenes of village life unfold, with women dressed in vibrant ceremonial clothing on their way to the temple, sun-bronzed rice farmers carrying their harvest on their shoulders, and small children laughing and playing along the sides of the road. Eventually, you approach the soaring bamboo gates of Villa Vajra, and enter into a world of tranquility and natural beauty.
To get to Villa Varja, you must pass through the bamboo gates and make your way along a raised wooden path that skirts the rice fields. Enter through the wooden door in the wall that surrounds the house, and you are immediately presented with a shimmering lotus pond adorned by a graceful Buddha statue, and a covered walkway dripping in white flowers and vines. On either side of the walkway there are thatched roofed pavilions, with the study on the right, and the master bedroom and a guest bedroom on the left. The second guest bedroom is located below the master bedroom. Each of the bedrooms has polished wooden floors, A/C and fans, telephone lines with IDD and local calling available, and safety deposit boxes located in the storage closets.
Living & Dining Areas
From the upper level, an outdoor cantilevered staircase descends to the vast living and dining area below. The lofty ceiling here is three stories high, and the spacious living room features teak chairs and sofas with plush cushions, a large mahogany dining table and hanging lanterns for ambiance. Attached to the living and dining room is a semi-circular wooden deck that juts out over the Wos River valley. The breezy deck is supported by coconut wood beams and has holes in the floor where jackfruit trees can grow up through the deck. On this level there is also a kitchen where the staff prepare meals, and where guests can store snacks and beverages.
Smooth merbau wooden floors add elegance and warmth to this stunning suite that is open on three sides with sliding glass doors that offer views out over the jungle, river valley and pool. A queen size bed beckons with soft, romantic lighting over the wooden headboard that doubles as a shelf, and the ensuite bathroom gleams with white Palimanan stone floors, a large black terrazzo Jacuzzi, and a shower that opens up to a private garden. There is also a small balcony with cushioned benches that overlooks the waterfall that cascades into the pool and the Wos River valley far below.
The Valley Suite is directly below the master bedroom, and it features a comfortable queen-sized bed, sliding glass doors that look out over the river valley, a private dressing room with plenty of shelving, and an ensuite garden bathroom designed in black terrazzo with a large bathtub and shower. This bedroom is on the east side of the villa, so it gets soft sunlight in the morning. The Sawah Suite is on the west side of the villa, and it has large glass windows on three sides that overlook the rice fields. This is the smaller of the three rooms, but no less comfortable, with a twin bed and an ensuite bathroom with marble floors, a bathtub and a shower.
Study & Media Room
On the right side of the Lotus pond, you will find a sophisticated, yet comfortable study, which also doubles as a media room. Dark wooden cabinets hold a flat screen TV, DVD player, a sound system that is connected to speakers throughout the villa and the grounds, a large DVD library, books and board games. The large windows surrounding the desk look out over the jungle and the living and dining areas below. This room can also be converted into a bedroom, as it has an ensuite bathroom, a private balcony and plenty of space.
Opposite the living and dining pavilion there is an aquamarine swimming pool surrounded by a wooden sundeck with loungers for soaking up the sun. A waterfall cascades gently into the pool, and the inviting Jacuzzi is perfect for drinks under the stars. Below the pool deck, you will find a fully equipped fitness room and a thatched pavilion for relaxing, meditation, yoga or spa treatments.
Villa Vajra has a full complement of staff on call around the clock, including a villa manager and assistant manager, four security guards, two cooks, housekeepers, and garden and pool attendants. The amiable staff here will attend to your every need without being intrusive, and special requests for tours and activities are welcome.
For meals, Villa Vajra offers an in-house menu with dishes that are prepared using fresh local ingredients and organic produce when possible. The cooks can prepare a wide range of Asian and Western specialties, and for special requests, the staff will do the shopping for the ingredients at the market for you. Alcoholic beverages are available on request, and dinner guests are welcome, provided notice is given beforehand so that the staff can prepare extra food.
Massage and spa treatments are also available in house. Just arrange an appointment with the villa manager, and skilled therapists from Ubud’s popular Biyuhkukung Spa will come to the villa to pamper you in the comfort of your room or in the open-air pavilion that sits amid lush jungle foliage.
