Villa Ria Sayan

2 Bedrooms | Tropical Retreat | Ubud, Bali
from $375 per night

You know you’re well and truly in Bali as soon as you step foot in Villa Ria Sayan. This gorgeous 2-Bedroom private villa resting atop the Sayan Ridge is tropical living at its best, with natural wood and stone architecture, lush manicured gardens with ponds and fountains, an infinity pool overlooking the rice fields and the village temple across the gorge, and beautiful antique furnishings and art. Plus, you are only minutes away from the centre of Ubud, where you’ll find plenty of shops, restaurants, art galleries and cultural performances.

The Vibe

A private driveway leads you to the antique gateway that marks the entrance of Villa Ria Sayan. Walk through the wooden doors, and you find yourself on a pathway of stepping stones that makes its way across tranquil fish ponds to the main building. Here you can turn right to enter the large open-air living and dining room, or keep going straight to the pool deck and stunning infinity pool.

Inside the villa, alang-alang ceilings add a touch of the tropical and antique Indonesian furniture and artwork creates an exotic feel to the rooms. Hand-woven textiles and silk pillows adorn the plush sofas, armchairs and daybeds, and open-sided walls and floor to ceiling windows allow light and air to stream in and offer views of the tropical greenery and volcanic peaks in the distance.

At Villa Ria Sayan, you get the best of both worlds, as the rooms inside offer A/C, comfortable spots to recline and relax and modern amenities, while the gardens outside are where you’ll find tropical flowers and fruit trees, the refreshing infinity pool, and plenty of shady places to enjoy the gentle breezes and sounds of the birds in the trees, water bubbling in the fountains and the haunting melodies of the gamelan orchestra from the temple across the river valley.

The Layout

Indoor Living
The living and dining area at Villa Ria Sayan takes up almost the entire the ground floor, and is open on three sides, so you feel as though you are amid greenery and the sounds of nature, yet protected from the elements. Everywhere you look you see carved wooden doors and screens, antique stone statues, intriguing paintings, cushioned chairs and wooden tables. On one side of the room, an oversized sofa with soft pillows sits facing the pool and river gorge, and on the other side, a wooden dining table is set with contemporary plates, glasses and colorful napkins. Surrounding the living and dining area are stone walls for privacy, water fountains, ponds and tropical plants and flowers.

Guest Suites
From the entrance foyer, you can go through the antique wooden Balinese doors in the back of the main building to access the 2 master luxury bedrooms. Each bedroom has a four-poster king-sized bed draped in colorful linens and light mosquito netting and garden-style ensuite bathrooms with huge stone bathtubs and natural stone tiled showers. Large windows and sliding glass doors look out to the gardens, soft lighting sets the mood at night, and guests can opt for A/C to cool down or ceiling fans for a more natural feeling.

If you head up the timber stairs in the entrance foyer, you reach the second level of Villa Ria Sayan, where you will find a large balcony overlooking the pool in front of the study. In the study, there is an oversized desk where you can check up on emails or get some work done, plush armchairs, an entertainment center with a satellite TV, VCD and CD player, a well-stocked library with books on everything from travel to fiction to architecture, and a bar fridge so you don’t have to go downstairs every time you need a drink. There is also an antique Javanese bed here and an ensuite bathroom, so this room can double as an extra bedroom.

For those who want to stay fit during your holiday Villa Ria Sayan also offers a small gym next to the separate staff quarters near the entrance gate. However, most people find that doing laps in the lengthy pool or trekking in the surrounding hills and jungles is exercise enough.

Outdoor Living
Villa Ria Sayan’s natural stone tiled infinity pool is one of the key focal points of the villa, as the turquoise waters of the pool are surrounded by a lovely pool deck with sun loungers, umbrellas and a shaded dining table, as well as a small covered bale (gazebo) that sits over the water. The views from the pool deck are simply spectacular, as you can see all the way to the other side of the Sayan gorge, and on particular evenings, you may even catch glimpses of a ceremony taking place at the temple on the other side.

  1. The ultimate holiday

This was our second stay at Villa Ria Sayan and it was just as good as the first one 5 years ago. The location is spectacular, with the views over the Sayan River and fabulous sunsets. The villa is comfortable and large enough to accommodate our family of 4 with extra space. We spent days on end in the pool and lazing around the villa. The service is outstanding. The staff shopped and cooked delicious meals and helped us book our outings as well. We are likely to go back again as it really was one of the most relaxing holidays we've had.

  1. Beautifully Decorated Peaceful Place

We had such a wonderful time in Villa Ria Sayan. We are so sad to leave ! Ketut and Nengah were great and loving and the food was very nice we recommend LAKSA …Yummy !! Soto Ayam was so nice. Great house, beautifully decorated a peaceful place. Thank You very much.

  1. Incredible villa!

My boyfriend, his parents and I stayed 5 nights at the Villa Ria Sayan and we wish we could have stayed longer. What a spectacular property! We arrived late at night and were greeted by a beautiful view of the rice fields the next morning. Everything was so well organised and the staff were fantastic - we were collected by the airport at 11pm and the staff were waiting at the house to meet us even though it was late. Each morning we had a delicious breakfast with a selection of local fruit, yum! We also ate a number of dinners at the house and each was absolutely wonderful, compliments to the chef! Everything was immaculate, the bedrooms, the bathrooms, the living area, the swimming pool.

  1. View of the Volcanos

We enjoyed one full week at Villa Ria Sayan with our whole family. We all were impressed by the massive green around us, the intense jungle noise and the view of the volcanos. One could only sit on the terrace or next to the pool watching and stunning. Everyday we enjoyed breakfast and dinner here, where they served all with the children liked and typical Balinese food for the adults being here in the rainy season was an experience with unseen rainfalls and an unseen nature and green thereafter. We loved the furniture and would have wanted to buy everything that is there. We will surely comeback once.
