Villa Bayad

4 Bedrooms | Majestic Views | Ubud, Bali
from $720 per night

Imagine yourself in a tranquil spot where you are surrounded by nature. The sun shines warmly on tropical flowers and glints off the still waters of lotus ponds, and beyond the coconut and fruit trees you can see the majestic peak of Bali’s most sacred volcano, Mount Agung. As you step out of your private and luxurious bungalow, you make your way under flower covered pergolas past the two swimming pools and into the spacious living area. Here you can enjoy an exquisite meal prepared with fresh organic produce from the garden and the local market, surrounded by spectacular views over the jungle and rice terraces. Welcome to Villa Bayad, a peaceful paradise just 15 minutes north of Ubud, Bali.

The Vibe

Villa Bayad is a masterpiece of traditional Balinese architecture and modern comforts, designed by renowned Southeast Asian architect Popo Danes. The four spacious luxury bedrooms are all separate from the main house and kitchen, and are surrounded by sloping rice terraces, lush jungle greenery, picturesque bridges and breezy bales that are perfect for meditation or relaxation. Two swimming pools allow you to cool off on hot days, and the zen-like spa is sure to put your body, mind and soul at ease. In addition, the friendly staff here are ready to attend to your every need, so you can sit back and enjoy the spectacular scenery and utter serenity that Villa Bayad has to offer.

No detail was spared in the design of Villa Bayad, as every effort was made to provide an authentic Balinese experience from the minute guests walk in the traditional gate at the entrance. Throughout the villa you will find natural materials, thatched roofs, batik patterns, plush cushions and local artworks in warm, earthy colors. Each building features floor to ceiling windows and double doors that open to allow the air to flow in and to provide incredible views of the beautiful grounds, epic sunrises and sunsets, and the blue-grey cone of Mount Agung in the distance. In addition, each bedroom was inspired by a different city in Bali, so you get a true sense of the mosaic of culture and arts that abounds on the Island of the Gods.

The Layout

Main House
Step into the main house, and you are immediately struck by the liberating feeling of space and light. Under the soaring cathedral-style ceiling there is a large wooden dining table with cushioned chairs that can seat up to 10 people, a natural stone countertop bar surrounded by wooden chairs and stools, and plenty of seating areas and small tables that are perfect for afternoon tea, cocktails or simply reclining with good company.

Fronting the main house is a large veranda with a natural stone floor that is surrounded by picturesque fish ponds filled with water lilies. On either side of the main house there are also lovely wooden bales that look out over the garden and off to the rice fields beyond. These are ideal spots for sitting back with a good book, or napping in the gentle breezes.

If the weather is less than ideal, head indoors to the media room/library where you will find comfy rattan chairs and state-of-the-art audio and video equipment. There is also a lovely guest bathroom in the main house for convenience.

Tenganan House
Named after the Bali Aga village on the east coast of Bali, this is the largest bedroom, and it stands on columns overlooking the main pool and the lower garden. Inside you will find a queen-sized bed, massive walk-in closet and a gorgeous bathroom with natural stone tiles. Tenganan House is also directly connected to the spa area, which is an breezy walled space covered by a traditional bale that sits in the middle of a tranquil koi pond.

Klung Kung House
This guest room is closest to the main house and also attached to the spa area. The house was named after the royal city of Klung Kung in the east of Bali, and it features a queen-sized bed with a mattress that can be divided if needed, a walk-in closet, and an attractive bathroom that is partly open, yet still private. The views of the rice terraces here from the private bale that sits amid a private water garden are simply spectacular.

Ubud House
Taking its inspiration from Bali’s arts and cultural center of Ubud, it should come as no surprise that Ubud House offers unique decor, including the distinctive black and white checked cloth that represents the balance of good and evil in Balinese culture. This room has polished hardwood floors, a queen-sized bed with divisible mattresses, and a small walled garden with an open-air shower so you can let both the cool water and breezes flow over you at the same time.

Singaraja House
Singaraja House is a peaceful sanctuary with gleaming hardwood floors, a queen-sized bed with an intricately carved stone bas-relief overhead, a spotless bathroom decked out in turquoise terrazzo tiles, and a private walled garden with an open-air shower. As an added bonus, Singaraja House and Ubud House share a private fully equipped kitchen and dining bale and an enticing spring water fed plunge pool and pool deck.

Outdoor Living
One of the most pleasant aspects of Villa Bayad is the lovely landscaped property that offers surprises around every corner. Wander along the stone paths that make their way past lush tropical foliage, and you will come across fertile fruit trees, the organic vegetable and herb garden and pretty ponds. The Sunrise Bridge spans a small canyon filled with rocks, waterfalls and lily ponds, making this a great spot for some yoga, meditation or sunset drinks.

Stop by the main pool for a dip in the fresh spring water or bask in the sun on the ironwood deck. Next to the pool deck there is a Teriyaki grill with table and chairs for snacks and meals outdoors by the pool. For those looking to stay fit on holiday, there is also a fully equipped and air-conditioned gym and mountain bikes for rent. And if its pampering and rejuvenation you’re after, the spa is an alluring open courtyard in the middle of a koi pond with a comfortable massage table, natural stone bathtub and waterfall shower.

  1. Beautiful and complete relaxation

The surroundings are beautiful and authentic and so is the food that is served. We tried Putu’s kitchen school during our stay and got a taste of making the delicious Balinese food. Furthermore, we were on the market along with the chef and bought ingredients for kitchen school. During our stay at Villa Bayad the staff helped us to organize various tours around the island. We were among else river rafting we visited Bali Safari and Bali Bird Park and had a trip to Tenganan Pegringsingan. On days where we wanted to relax we lay by the beautiful pool. Got massage in the spa area and had pedicures and manicures made or other beauty pampering e.g. eyelash extensions. Other days we went to Ubud center and enjoyed the cultural and artistic surroundings. Villa Bayad's driver drove us there and picked us up again either when we phoned or at an agreed time at a particular place. The staff is generally very welcoming and helpful.

  1. Greatest place on earth!

We all love coming here. Lovely tranquil atmosphere. Great food. And the staff are all the sweetest, most helpful people around! The beautiful gardens and the amazing saltwater infinity pool makes the stay here feel like a little bit of paradise. We keep coming back and for good reason!

  1. A wonderful paradise place and with world class staff

We travelled as a family of 9 persons. We went to Bali to celebrate a 60 years birthday and it became an unforgettable experience. Villa Bayad is like Paradise on earth. From arrival to departure, we were treated like Kings and Queens. The staff is so dedicated to their job, and they will do everything to make you feel at home, and we certainly did feel at home. The food in Villa Bayad is worth a Michelin star. Each room is decorated so wonderful and elegant and with exquisite taste and Balinese-style. The whole company, which also consisted of young people, enjoyed the silence and beauty and good karma as Villa Bayad offers. We can only recommend this place to anyone who wants the feeling of paradise on earth.

  1. Luxury and tranquility in Villa Bayad, Bali

When we arrived at Villa Bayad we were stunned. The villa is amazing with several houses built and furnished in Bali style with a little touch of Scandinavian design. It is all very tasteful done and you feel welcome and home in the villa. It is fantastic so quickly you get used to the luxury the villa holds. The villa has an amazing atmosphere which bounds in what we would call a "native" inspired in- and exterior. Yet the villa has all the modern equipment you will need for a vacation. The staff is very friendly, helpful and serviceminded. Some days we stayed in the villa all day and had the cook to prepare meals for us. The food was authentic and very delicious. The huge garden is beautiful with many exotic flowers and plants growing down the hillside. You can find many pretty places to spend your time in quiet surroundings with a view to the rice fields. Sitting in a ‘bale’ makes you relaxed and happy while reading or listening to the water running through the ponds in the garden. You can keep fit in the fitness room or take a swim in the big swimmingpool. Or maybe just enjoy the sun and the scenery from a sunbed. The houses and surroundings are all well maintained and beautifully arranged. The villa is unique and we strongly recommend this ‘Bali experience’.

  1. Wonderful Villa

It is easy to see that Villa Bayad was designed by the famous Balinese architect, Popo Danes, as every detail has been carefully considered. This is a truly stunning villa in a magic location. There are 4 large suites offering everything you could possibly need. The large dining/lounge area is beautifully set out and very comfortable. We were cooked beautiful meals by Putu each day (she was trained by the chef at the Mosaic restaurant). Komang arranged all of our travel (the boys went to Bedugal to play golf for the day) and ferried us in to Ubud whenever we wanted to go (10 minute drive). He also took us on a great walk through the rice paddies. The 2 pools are stunning with plenty of lounges to sun on. We also booked massages which were great (the Villa has 2 passage tables). There is also a great gym next to the pool. We all hope to return one day.
