Seminyak Travel Guide

Seminyak is Bali’s cosmopolitan seaside playground with beautiful beaches, tropical chic restaurants, cafes and nightclubs, luxury villas and hotels and some of the finest shopping this side of Jakarta. Stylish and sexy, Seminyak is all about chilling out by the pool with a cold one in hand, sunning yourself on the golden sands, picking up designer threads at cute boutiques, and seeing and being seen at the latest beach clubs and dining and drinking venues.

Although Seminyak may seem posh at first glance with a plethora of high-end hotels and luxury villas, delve a bit deeper and you’ll find that there really is something here to suit all budgets. From surfer-friendly guesthouses to seaside estates, family-run warungs serving up affordable Indonesian cuisine and edgy underground bars, it’s no wonder that Seminyak has such a dynamic and progressive vibe. However, if you want to escape the flurry of activity on Eat Street and Double Six Beach, the rice fields and breezy cafes of Kerobokan are just a stone’s throw away.

Attractions

The main attractions in Seminyak are the beaches and the incredibly varied dining and drinking scene. Double Six Beach is the busiest stretch of sand with surfers hitting up the waves daily, sunbathers bronzing their bods on sun loungers and a long row of restaurants and bars on Blue Ocean Road, which runs parallel to and along the beach. Batu Belig Beach is a bit quieter and a great place to come for sunset, as the beach is wide and sandy and there are plenty of spots to grab an icy cold Bintang beer or martini. For those who want to check out a bit of the local culture, Pura Petitenget is a striking seaside temple that often plays host to extravagant Hindu ceremonies.

Things To Do

No matter what time of day or night it is, you can always find a beach club in Seminyak where you can dine on exquisite Asian and international cuisine and indulge in creative cocktails beside the pool or overlooking the ocean. Ku De Ta is the go-to spot for casual breakfasts and lunches on the breezy patio, divine dinners on the comfy sofas inside and rocking beach parties once the sun goes down.

If you’re starting to develop atrophy from all that lazing around, hit the shops on Jalan Petitenget for designer bikinis, linen suits, strappy sandals and chunky jewellery, or head to Jalan Raya Kerobokan for sophisticated housewares and contemporary artworks. After dark, Jalan Oberoi is the spot to grab a bite accompanied by a few glasses of wine and dance the night away at funky nightclubs.

The Scene

You’ll find a mish-mash of people in Seminyak including A-listers on holiday, up and coming fashion designers, models and artists, laid-back surfers and hipster partiers. There is a huge expat scene here, so don’t be surprised if every second person you meet is either building or has already built a house or villa somewhere nearby. Jalan Oberoi is the place to meet people over coffee or cocktails, as the street comes alive on weekends and after dark, and Dhyana Pura is a popular hotspot for the gay crowd.
